You're searching for a Shopify development agency in India. Which means you're probably a D2C brand founder in India looking for a local partner, an ecommerce business in Dubai or Singapore looking for cost-effective development, or a marketing team that's been burned by a generalist agency and wants someone who actually knows Shopify.
Here's the thing: we're a Shopify development agency in India writing about Shopify development agencies in India. We're going to be transparent about that. We'll tell you where we fit, where we don't, and give you the evaluation framework to make your own decision.
This isn't a sponsored list. Nobody paid to be here.
How to Evaluate a Shopify Agency (Before You Look at Any List)
Before comparing agencies, know what to look for. These criteria separate real Shopify specialists from generalists who added "Shopify" to their services page.
1. Shopify Partner Status
This is non-negotiable. Go to partners.shopify.com and verify. Shopify Partners have access to development stores, Shopify's partner support line, beta features, and the Partner Academy. Agencies that aren't Partners lack the tooling and support infrastructure that makes Shopify development efficient.
Beyond basic Partner status, look for Shopify Plus Partners if you're at the enterprise level (doing $1M+ in annual GMV).
2. Liquid and Hydrogen Expertise
Shopify's templating language is Liquid. Its headless commerce framework is Hydrogen (built on Remix/React). Any agency claiming Shopify expertise should demonstrate proficiency in at least Liquid. Ask to see theme customisation examples, not just stores they've set up using a pre-built theme with zero code changes.
Red flag: an agency that only shows stores built with page builders like Shogun or GemPages. These are tools for non-developers. A development agency should be writing Liquid.
3. Portfolio with Metrics
A portfolio of pretty screenshots tells you nothing. Ask for:
- Page speed scores (before and after)
- Conversion rate improvements
- Revenue impact
- Mobile performance metrics
If an agency can't share quantifiable results, they either don't measure their impact or their impact isn't worth measuring.
4. Team Composition
Ask directly: "Who will work on my project?" Some agencies have a sales team that pitches senior developers and then hands your project to junior freelancers. Others have a dedicated Shopify team with consistent quality.
This is especially common with agencies that position themselves as "full-service" — they do Shopify, WordPress, React, mobile apps, SEO, content, social media, and everything else. Nobody is excellent at everything.
5. Communication and Process
Ask about their project management setup. Do they use tools like ClickUp, Asana, or Linear? Will you get a dedicated project manager? What's their revision process? What happens when something breaks post-launch?
An agency's process tells you more than their portfolio.
Red Flags When Hiring an India-Based Shopify Agency
These patterns show up repeatedly in the India market. If you encounter any of these, proceed with caution:
"We can do it for ₹10,000" — If an agency quotes under ₹30K for a custom Shopify store, they're either using a free theme with zero customisation or they're planning to use a page builder and charge you for "development." Real Shopify development starts at ₹60-80K minimum for a quality build.
No Shopify-specific case studies — They show you WordPress sites, React dashboards, and mobile apps, but when you ask for Shopify work, they have one store from 2022 that they set up using a premium theme.
Outsourcing to freelancers — The agency pitches you on their team but your project gets handed to a freelancer on Fiverr or Upwork. Ask for LinkedIn profiles of the developers who'll work on your project.
Overselling page builders — If their primary recommendation is to build your entire store with Shogun or PageFly, they're not a development agency. They're a setup service. Page builders have their place, but they add JavaScript bloat, create maintenance complexity, and limit what you can do with Shopify's native features.
No post-launch support contract — The real work starts after launch. Theme updates, app conflicts, performance degradation, new feature requests — if an agency doesn't offer ongoing maintenance, they're planning to disappear after delivery.
Pricing Tiers for India-Based Shopify Agencies
Here's a realistic breakdown of what Shopify development costs from agencies in India in 2026:
Budget Tier (₹30K–₹80K)
Premium theme setup with basic customisation. Logo placement, colour changes, product upload, payment gateway integration (Razorpay, Cashfree, or Shopify Payments). No custom Liquid development. Suitable for: first-time founders testing product-market fit.
Mid-Range (₹80K–₹2.5L)
Custom theme development or heavy modification of an existing theme. Custom sections, metafield-driven content, basic app integrations, mobile optimisation, SEO setup. This is where most D2C brands should start. Suitable for: brands ready to scale with a store that reflects their identity.
Premium (₹2.5L–₹6L)
Fully custom Shopify theme from scratch, Hydrogen headless builds, complex integrations (ERP, PIM, multi-currency, custom checkout extensions), performance optimisation, accessibility compliance. Suitable for: established brands with specific technical requirements or international operations.
Enterprise (₹6L+)
Shopify Plus builds with custom checkout extensibility, multi-storefront architecture, B2B wholesale channels, complex discount logic, and enterprise integrations. Suitable for: brands doing significant volume who need Shopify Plus features.
India-Specific Strengths Worth Noting
Why international clients hire India-based agencies:
- Cost arbitrage: The same quality of development costs 40-60% less than agencies in the US, UK, or Australia
- English fluency: India's developer ecosystem communicates primarily in English, unlike many other offshore markets
- Time zone overlap with the Middle East and Southeast Asia: If you're based in Dubai, Singapore, or KSA, India-based agencies share working hours with you
- DPIIT recognition and MSME certification: Some Indian agencies carry government startup recognition, which adds a layer of institutional credibility
Our Position: Innovatrix Infotech
Full transparency: this is our company. Here's where we fit.
Innovatrix Infotech is an India-based Shopify Partner agency. We're DPIIT-recognised, MSME-certified, and also an AWS Partner. Our specific niche is D2C brands in India, Dubai, Singapore, and KSA.
What we're good at:
- Custom Shopify theme development in Liquid
- Performance optimisation (our FloraSoul India project delivered a +41% mobile conversion improvement)
- Shopify + automation integrations (n8n, Make.com, custom webhooks)
- Technical SEO for Shopify stores
- Working with bootstrapped founders who need high-quality development without enterprise budgets
What we're not:
- We're not a Shopify Plus Partner (yet) — if you need Shopify Plus checkout extensibility, we can build it but we don't carry the official Plus Partner badge
- We're not a 50-person agency with dedicated project managers for every client — you'll work directly with our development team
- We don't do one-click theme setups — if you just need a theme installed and configured, we're probably not the right fit (and you'll overpay for what you need)
Our case studies with real numbers:
- FloraSoul India: +41% mobile conversion, +28% AOV
- Baby Forest: ₹4.2L launch-month revenue, -22% cart abandonment
- Zevarly: +55% session duration, +33% repeat purchase rate
If you're evaluating us alongside other agencies, book a discovery call and we'll give you an honest assessment of whether we're the right fit.
What a Good Discovery Call Should Look Like
This applies to every agency, not just us. When you get on a discovery call with a Shopify agency, here's what a good call looks like versus what a bad call looks like:
Good discovery call:
- They ask about your business goals, not just your feature wishlist
- They discuss your current store's performance data
- They're honest about timelines and limitations
- They suggest starting smaller if your scope is too ambitious for your budget
- They mention maintenance and post-launch support upfront
- They ask about your tech stack and existing integrations
Bad discovery call:
- They jump straight to pricing without understanding your needs
- They agree to everything you ask for (they'll figure it out later, or they won't)
- They can't answer technical questions about Shopify's architecture
- They never mention testing, QA, or performance
- They don't discuss what happens after launch
- They pressure you into a contract before you've seen a proposal
How to Make Your Decision
After evaluating 3-5 agencies:
- Compare proposals side by side — not just price, but scope, timeline, and what's included post-launch
- Call their references — ask about communication, deadline adherence, and how they handled problems (not just successes)
- Check their own website's performance — if their site scores poorly on PageSpeed Insights, that tells you something about their priorities
- Trust your gut on communication — if the pre-sales communication is slow and unclear, the project communication will be worse
The best agency for you isn't necessarily the biggest or the cheapest. It's the one that understands your specific market, has demonstrable Shopify expertise, and communicates in a way that gives you confidence.
