Earth Bags
Earthbags Export had been a global B2B powerhouse for over two decades — manufacturing 3.6 million handcrafted bags per year in their IGBC Gold-certified green factory in Kolkata, exporting to 70+ countries. But their direct-to-consumer presence was non-existent. The company had no online store, no retail brand identity, and no way to capture the booming demand for sustainable fashion accessories from individual consumers. The challenge wasn't manufacturing — they had that at world-class scale. The challenge was brand transformation. Earthbags needed to go from being perceived as a B2B exporter (bulk orders, trade shows, factory spec sheets) to a desirable D2C fashion brand (styled product photography, lifestyle content, impulse-worthy price points). Their products — jute tote bags, cotton canvas crossbodies, denim shoulder bags with pearl handles and lace details — were genuinely beautiful, but they had zero consumer-facing brand equity. Competitors in the sustainable bag space (Nappa Dori, The Burlap People, Ecobags) already had established D2C stores with strong Instagram presences and organic search rankings. Earth Bags needed to enter this market with a store that communicated both sustainability credentials (IGBC Gold factory, azo-free dyes, handcrafted production) and fashion-forward styling — not an easy balance to strike. Additionally, the D2C store needed to serve both Indian and international customers (given the company's existing global export footprint), requiring multi-currency support, international shipping, and payment gateways for both markets.

The Challenge
Our Solution
We designed and built shopearthbags.com as a premium D2C Shopify storefront that repositions Earthbags from a B2B manufacturer into a sustainable fashion brand. The custom Liquid theme was designed to communicate two things simultaneously: eco-conscious manufacturing (sustainability story, green factory credentials, material transparency) and fashion-forward desirability (editorial product photography, styled lookbook imagery, seasonal collection drops).
The product photography strategy was critical. We worked with the Earth Bags team to style each bag as a fashion accessory — lifestyle shots showing bags in urban settings, detail shots highlighting handcrafted elements (pearl handles, lace details, gold metal hardware), and material close-ups showing the jute and cotton textures. Each product page features a sustainability section explaining the specific materials used, the artisan process, and the environmental impact avoided.
The store is organised around seasonal 'Volumes' (collection drops) and 'Shop by Style' categories — tote bags, crossbody bags, shoulder bags, pouches, and corporate/wholesale orders. This structure supports both impulse purchases from Instagram traffic and intentional browsing from organic search visitors.
For the international market, we configured PayPal alongside Razorpay, multi-currency display with automatic geo-detection, and international shipping rates through partnered logistics. The wholesale/corporate orders page serves as a bridge between the D2C store and the company's B2B heritage, capturing bulk inquiries from businesses wanting branded sustainable bags.
The email acquisition strategy uses Klaviyo-powered popups with a first-purchase discount, feeding into automated flows for welcome series, abandoned cart recovery, and new collection launch announcements. Judge.me was configured for photo reviews, encouraging customers to share images of their bags in real-world settings.
SEO was foundational. Every product page has structured data, every collection has a keyword-optimised description targeting terms like 'eco-friendly jute bags India', 'sustainable fashion bags online', and 'handcrafted cotton tote bags'. The blog covers sustainability topics, material guides, and styling inspiration — driving long-tail organic traffic from environmentally conscious consumers.

Client testimonial
“We've been manufacturing bags for 70+ countries for 25 years, but selling directly to consumers is a completely different game. Innovatrix built us a Shopify store that positions Earth Bags as a premium sustainable fashion brand, not just a bag manufacturer. The product styling, the sustainability storytelling, the international checkout — they thought of everything. We crossed ₹18 lakhs in D2C revenue within six months.”
